HISTORY:
On sale is this beautiful two-tone R107 380 SL V8. This is a one-previous-owner SL: in the same family since November 1993, so 32 years in the current ownership. The period colour combination of Champagne Gold bodywork with Manganese Brown hard top does display very well.
This SL has always lived in the garage and has never been driven in poor weather.
You can tell that it has been the third car of the collection, when you can still see the detail of the original factory markings.
It starts immediately on the key and settles to a smooth idle. It sits beautifully on the road and keeps up with modern traffic with ease. It could be driven in London with confidence – and with no charge.
The bulkhead has been inspected: it is in original rust-free condition, with clear drain holes.
The period brown sports-check front seats show no wear, and this SL has the rear seat option.
It went through a sympathetic re-paint a few years ago, and received a mechanical overall to refresh the whole vehicle. The chrome-work and fixings still retain that original fresh feel.
The original spare wheel, tool kit and jack are all correct and in order.
WHY BUY?
This is a period R107 380 SL which just oozes class: solid chrome door handles and a good mix of modernity make it enjoyable to own and drive, including in city traffic. The two-tone paint combination just adds to its period charm. It is not easy now to find these low-ownership, low-average-miles examples of the classic R107 V8 SL, but making the journey to Cheshire to inspect this 380SL was very worthwhile.
This is a classic SL that ticks many of the right boxes, at a price point that has to be considered.
