HISTORY:
This R107 300 SL AMG being offered for sale with Bruce Greetham Classic Benz is the rarest R107 I have ever been involved with.
At about 15,000 miles and three years old, it went back to AMG and had the engine bored-out to 3.2 litres with a full rebuild to AMG specification. This R107 thus got a power output comparable with the V8 model of the time, while retaining its straight-six engine and its original look.
Painted in pristine and unmarked Arctic White, with blue sports-check seats looking as though they were fitted yesterday – as does the factory burr walnut wood trim – this 3.2 AMG is fitted with cruise-control which eases the long trips and continental drives.
Half wood/leather steering wheel and burr walnut gear knob fitted. The factory-originals come with the car.
The AMG certification is logged in the file, alongside all spare keys and the 20 stamped serviced book with dealer wallet.
A four previous-owner car with just 45’000 miles, it has been with the current owner since 2016. It has lived a cosseted life in his garage as part of an SL collection. Time now to hand over to another collector who can enjoy this car in today’s classic scene.
WHY BUY:
This vehicle is unique in the history of AMG, prior to its merger with Mercedes in 1990.
It can claim the rights as ‘the first SL AMG’, because this R107 300 SL received the full AMG performance upgrade in 1986, a full 7 years and a model change before Mercedes introduced the R129 SL60 AMG in 1993.
This is a dream car to any collector interested in proper AMG ‘one man, one engine’ performance enhancement.
This R107 300SL 3.2AMG could be just what you are looking for: something very special from the pre-AMG/Mercedes merger period; in top-drawer condition; with a history file like no other.
…and of course ULEZ exemption is only a year away, which makes this SL AMG even more appealing to a Home Counties owner.
