2002 Mercedes-Benz SL600 (R129) ‘Silver Arrow Edition’ LHD

Introduced in late 2001 for 2002, the SL600 ‘Silver Arrows’ was the R129’s final run-out edition and, for the US market, only 100 cars were built. Naturally they benefited from a host of special equipment including Silver Arrow metallic paint (777), fully-lined black soft top, engine-turned Aluminium instrument cluster with chrome bezels, and Aluminium trim on the wind deflector, shift gate, pedals, grille and boot lid. In addition, unique mechanical componentry included new, multi-piece, six-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels with 245/45ZR18 and 275/35ZR18-inch tyres front and rear, factory-drilled brake discs front and rear, Xenon high-intensity gas discharge headlights, and a six-disc CD changer. Additionally, the Silver Arrow cars received multi-contour seats in black leather upholstery with silver perforations, a combination leather/black Bird’s-eye Maple steering wheel and shift knob, and the very desirable Panorama hardtop.

This is one of those 100 limited-edition, left-hand drive US cars and, we believe, is currently unique on the UK market. A special collector client has decided to release his for sale and trusted Bruce Greetham Classic Benz to handle this rare model. Having been originally registered in Texas, it was was imported into the UK in April 2022 as part of a London-based, left-hand drive collection and has been enjoyed by just one owner since living in the UK.

In my time selling, restoring, and trading classic SLs, I have never had the opportunity to drive one of these rare cars and it was everything I hoped it would be.

The big V12 turned over effortlessly and sat humming with ease, all the electrics functioned like new including raising and lowering the suspension, the dash presents beautifully with that special turned Aluminium finish, and it retains the original radio and shark fin for SatNav. Naturally, having covered only 13,000 miles from new, it still sports the original, bespoke, multi-piece alloys and factory-fitted tyres.  It has some paint rectification to the passenger side due to small scratches from the US owner which flow in to the correct colour, however, this is a very honest car that will suit a discerning collector.
